I enjoyed this book so much!! It is brimming with the kinds of poems I will want to go back and reread. There is a wide range of topics here from musings about death to the quirks of the English language.Some of the poems tell stories, but, although many of them are playful, do not be deceived. Cliff Hays has demonstrated remarkable erudition in his excellent books on philosophy with titles like "Bivalent Logic,” and his written works also cover abstruse topics in physics and mathematics.
His erudition comes through in the poems as well, and the combination of his knowledge and the whimsical style of some of the poems make a fascinating combination. In one of them what seems like a simple conversation between a frog and a hare more deeply concerns which survival adaptations they should choose for themselves on the Galapagos Islands, where Charles Darwin began to form his theories about natural selection.
Other poems are more serious and formal, but they are all rich with interesting imagery that make them wonderfully enjoyable to read.
I am glad my Kindle edition is not a library book that I will have to return because it is definitely worth reading more than once. Cliff Hays has once again created a satisfying reading experience, and I am so glad I did not miss this one!
