The story deals with several men who are suddenly taken out of society and find themselves in a desert prison. Escape is difficult to consider; they do not know where they are and how far they have to walk to a populated area. One of them does try to escape.
Their administrators are pushing them in a certain direction, towards working in an entirely new city with rules based on energy rather than accepted city models. The novel handles some of the men's problems individually. Rather than being severely punished, they are coerced into changing habits.

Certainly a unique idea - I found the plot to be quite thought-provoking and enjoyed many of the different aspects of the character development (Marve and Irv were my favorite characters ;)I enjoyed the author's style and the easy-going pace of the book (as opposed to the more 'fast-paced-action/something exciting-happening-all-the-time' style that seems to pervade a lot of stories today ;) -- Unfortunately, I couldn't give it 5 stars because the kindle formatting wasn't the 'absolute greatest' and slowed me up a couple times... ;P :]
